Robin Lord Taylor Breaks Down Similarities And Differences Between Playing Sebastian And Gotham’s Penguin

[ Written on January 20 2022 by admin ]

Sebastian McClane and Penguin are two very different characters, but Robin Lord Taylor found some similarities in playing them.

Law & Order: Organized Crime mixed things up more than ever for Stabler and Co. with Richard Wheatley breaking hacker extraordinaire Sebastian “Constantine” McClane out of prison with the goal of joining forces… although Sebastian has other ideas. The NBC role has brought Gotham alum Robin Lord Taylor back to network television after playing Penguin for five seasons over on Fox. Sebastian is a very different character compared to Oswald Cobblepot, and Taylor broke down how the two compare in a chat with CinemaBlend.

Although Sebastian isn’t exactly on Stabler and the NYPD’s side in Season 2, he’s also not quite as evil as Richard Wheatley, played by Dylan McDermott. When asked what it has been like to build their odd couple dynamic, Robin Lord Taylor brought up a comparison to Gotham:

“It’s really fun. And it’s new for me too, to be on the other side. Because when I was on Gotham, I was the one who would come in. I was playing a character who would come into the room and have all of these plots and plans and setting all this dastardly stuff in motion. On this one, Dylan enters, and he’s being Richard Wheatley in all of his like grotesque splendor, and McClane just gives him nothing. You know what I mean? And it’s different for me, and really fun exercise to play. And then I get the front row seat of watching Dylan McDermott just do his thing. And it’s just awesome.”

Penguin’s plans may not have always been successful on Gotham, but he pretty much always had some kind of scheme in mind, and he liked having power. He certainly wasn’t against a jailbreak from Arkham! Sebastian McClane, on the other hand, didn’t ask to be broken out of prison and certainly never meant to cause a man’s death, with Wheatley doing the dirtiest deeds of Organized Crime. And I think it’s safe to say that Dylan McDermott is very good at being bad on the latest entry in the Law & Order franchise!

Robin Lord Taylor is trying some new things as Sebastian on Organized Crime, and not just because his new character has a very different look from Penguin on Gotham. The actor shared what his experience returning to network TV has been like after spending all those years in Fox’s Gotham City:

“Oh, it’s been incredible. And the cherry on the sundae is the fact that I’m shooting in my hometown in New York City. Also there are crew members on this show that were on Gotham. We were a family on that show, and just everyone loved each other, truly, truly loved each other. So then to be back on the streets of New York, in like this iconic show, this iconic world. And, you know, over there is my friend that I worked with in Gotham City. It’s just, it’s so great. And I’m having the time of my life.”

Joining the iconic world of the Law & Order TV universe may not be too similar to joining a TV show inspired by the pages of DC Comics, but Organized Crime has reunited Robin Lord Taylor with some familiar faces from his Gotham days. While actual law and order worked very differently when Taylor was opposite Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon vs. now opposite Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler, there are some familiar elements for the former Gotham actor.

Robin Lord Taylor elaborated on the fun of Organized Crime after Gotham, as two shows filmed in the same city that are so different:

“It’s totally different, and it’s funny, too, because it’s such a fun new experience. Because it’s contemporary now. Like, it’s the world as close to the world that you and I live in. You know what I mean? Unlike Gotham, where it’s just like, you know, it’s Gotham City. It’s iconic. It’s the ’70s and it’s like the 2020s all at the same time.”

Considering that Sebastian McClane uses the kinds of technology that never turned up in the world of Gotham, Organized Crime definitely has a different look and feel to it. Still, for Gotham fans, there is a very familiar face at the forefront of the second half of Season 2 so far with Robin Lord Taylor. Sebastian was in a sticky situation with Richard Wheatley at the end of the most recent episode, and viewers will have to wait and see if and how he gets out of it.

Robin Lord Taylor previously shared how Sebastian and Angela can find allies in each other, but surviving Richard Wheatley is going to be a difficult challenge. See what happens next with new episodes of Law & Order: Organized Crime on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, following new episodes of Law & Order: SVU. The two L&O shows will soon be joined by a third with the return of Law & Order for a Season 21 revival.

Robin Lord Taylor interviews for TV Insider

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’: Robin Lord Taylor Teases McClane’s Connection to Angela

On Law & Order: Organized Crime, hacker Sebastian McClane (recurring guest star Robin Lord Taylor) may no longer be behind bars, thanks to Richard Wheatley (Dylan McDermott), but that doesn’t mean that they’re at all alike.

After all, as we know, Richard is out to ruin Detective Elliot Stabler’s (Christopher Meloni) life, while McClane “really is a good person,” Taylor tells TV Insider. “He’s a good person who has gone wrong, but he’s a true hearted person.”

Taylor tells us more about Sebastian McClane, a.k.a. Constantine, and what’s ahead.

Last we saw Sebastian, he was brought to Richard and Angela (Tamara Taylor). Richard said they had to keep him on the move. So where are we going to see him going forward? Constantly moving locations or finding a home base?

Robin Lord Taylor: He does need to keep moving around, just because he’s got Stabler hunting for him and as we know, Stabler doesn’t give up. So, he’s gotta stay one step ahead of him. It’s really interesting because he has to work with Richard Wheatley. Wheatley sprung him from jail. So now he’s sort of stuck working for this person that he maybe not necessarily agrees with on any sort of moral level. But then at the same time, there are loose ends that he wants to tie up since he was imprisoned. So, he is also using Wheatley, so it’s a really fun dance that they’re doing in the next episode. And yeah, again, staying two steps ahead of Stabler, they sort of need each other to do that.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’: Robin Lord Taylor on McClane & Richard’s ‘Dance’

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2 Episode 11 “As Nottingham Was to Robin Hood.”]

It looks like hacker Sebastian McClane (Robin Lord Taylor) might have to put doing good out of his mind for the immediate future on Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Sure, Angela Wheatley (Tamara Taylor) says she’ll help him do some good, but he’s with Richard (Dylan McDermott) yet again by the end of “As Nottingham Was to Robin Hood,” rather than back in FBI custody as he’d attempted. (He thought he was turning himself in after visiting the family of the security guard whose death he caused.) And together, the two men just evaded Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt).

Taylor tells us what’s ahead.

Sebastian remains free, but now he is with Richard. What was it about Angela that made him trust her? Because they both want to do good?

Robin Lord Taylor: That’s exactly it. They both are under the thumb of this man. The only way out is to work together. That’s the only chance that they have.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

Absolutely.

Robin Lord Taylor will recur on ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’

[ Written on December 10 2021 by admin ]

Robin Lord Taylor will recur on Law & Order: Organized Crime as Sebastian McClane, a notorious hacker also known as Constantine, Give Me My Remote reports.

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME’s next arc is adding another TV favorite to the mix: Robin Lord Taylor has joined the series in a recurring capacity.

Taylor will play Sebastian McClane, AKA Constantine, a notorious hacker, who is one of several high-security convicts on the run after a prison break. To try and track him down, Bell’s (Danielle Moné Truitt) task force—including OCCB hacker Jet (Ainsley Seiger)—is brought in.

And with Richard (Dylan McDermott) now no longer facing charges for the death of Kathy Stabler, Constantine will be “featured heavily” in the upcoming arc and “going to interact inextricably with Wheatley,” ORGANIZED CRIME showrunner Ilene Chaiken shares.

“This next group of episodes, which we call ‘Nemesis,’ is really about Stabler and Wheatley—it’s about Stabler versus Wheatley, in that most classic way,” she says. “But there are other characters [in play]. And there’s a new character, who is, in a sense, in between them…who you’ll meet in episode 10, which is the first official episode of the so-called Wheatley pod.”

And, yes, you can expect Constantine to cause a bit of mayhem. “He sets off a chain reaction of events that both Wheatley and Stabler swirl around,” Chaiken teases. “And he’s just a very cool character that I’m excited to bring to life.”

Taylor is best known for playing Oswald Cobblepot, AKA Penguin, on Fox’s GOTHAM. He’s also appeared on YOU, KEVIN CAN F**K HIMSELF, and THE WALKING DEAD. (Taylor is also no stranger to the LAW & ORDER universe, previously guest-starring on the mothership three times and once on SVU.)Source: Give Me My Remote
